With things opening up in and around Dunbar, WV and summer here, more and more people are coming in to get their hair cut and dyed for summer. Many after just letting their hair go for the past year as they’ve stayed in, in an effort to keep themselves and others safe. Others choosing, with mixed results, to try home haircuts and color.
Summer hair trends for 2021 reflect this with many people wanting to dramatically shorten their hair and others opting for keeping their new longer length grown out during the pandemic.
Here are 10 of the Top Summer Hair Trends
#1 Mermaid Waves
If you’ve been growing your hair out for the past year and love beach waves, mermaid waves may be perfect for you. Think beachy waves, but longer. Closer to the waist like you would imagine a mermaid’s hair to be. It’s supposed to look like you just got out of the ocean and let your hair dry naturally. How to get them? You don’t need to have a special mermaid waver iron to get them. Take a flat iron and bend the hair in alternate directions going down the hair length. Just remember that for the best-looking hair, even if you’re trying to grow your hair to mermaid length, it’s important to get regular trims to keep your hair looking neat and healthy.

#2: The Shag
I’ve had a lot of people showing me pictures of shag haircuts of different lengths recently. It’s a great hairstyle if you are the type of person to let your hair air dry or you want a cut that is great at adding volume. It’s also very low-maintenance. With or without fringed bangs, it’s a very popular style right now.
#3: Mid-Length Styles
With many people foregoing a visit to the salon for the past year, many people have let their hair grow out. While some opt to keep their longer, waist-length hair, others are wanting to get a lot of it cut off and are wanting mid-length hair that falls just below their shoulders. And beachy waves with mid-length hair are still very popular.
#4: Bobs
In addition to mid-length styles, bobs are very popular right now. It’s not just that people tend to want short styles for the summer and to get rid of the winter weight, they’ve been carrying around that extra weight for a lot longer. For instance, at a time when many people wanted to get new haircuts in the spring and summer of 2020, salons were shut down. That hair just kept growing over the course of a year and they’re ready to cut it off. Fringe bangs are also popular with bobs right now.
#5: Bright Crazy Color
For a while, pastels and mermaid colors were very popular. Right now, I’m seeing a lot of bright colors, but it tends to be one shade.
#6: Blonde Balayage
Dark natural roots with light blonde at the ends is still very popular. Balayage gives a much more natural look to dyed hair even with the stark contrast of dark roots with light blonde ends. It grows out much better, too.
#7: Fringe Bangs
Ready to try some bangs for the first time in a while or maybe you’re tired of the side bang or straight bang look that were so trendy not too long ago? You may want to try fringe bangs. You could go with more piecey fringe bangs or for a softer look, feathery fringe bangs. They go great with a variety of styles and lengths.
#8: Choppy Lobs
Lobs are wonderful for being low maintenance.
#9: Cropped Hairstyles
This happens every year when it starts to get warmer. People opt for shorter styles, such a cropped hairstyles and pixie cuts. Try one of these styles with micro-fringe bangs.
#10 Copper-Colored Hair
Copper is a very popular color choice at the moment, with many celebrities choosing this color recently, including Phoebe Dynevor, Gigi Hadid, and Doja Cat.
#11 Bubble braids
I’m seeing these more and more. They’re a cool way of taking a ponytail or a french braid to the next level.
Hope these 11 summer hair trends help you figure out your next style or color. Whatever you choose, for best results, remember to bring me a picture of it. I can usually recreate just about any style or color you want with a pic of it.
