For several years now, straight hair has been in style. So what’s a curly or wavy-haired gal supposed to do? Come visit Carla’s Curl Up ‘N Color in Dunbar, WV!

Here are some of your options, but we can also talk about what’s right for you when you come in:

Flat Ironing

This option is great for getting straight hair, but without the commitment. The curlier the hair, the more time consuming it is and harder it is to get perfectly straight hair. Many times, hair just ends up wavy instead of straight.

The heat from flat ironing does cause some drying of the hair. The best thing you can do for your hair is to put a little bit of hair oil in your hair after flat ironing it to give it back some moisture and add some shine.

Straight Perm

This is a more permanent option than flat ironing hair. It uses the same perm formula as a body perm, but instead of adding curlers, the hair is combed straight. Depending on your hair, this option may just make your hair less curly or wavy.  To get truly straight hair, hair would still need to be flat ironed. The good thing about this option is that even if your isn’t completely straight after perming, it’s less harsh on hair than using a relaxer. Perming the hair straight also makes flat ironing and brushing hair a lot easier. Hair is less likely to tangle and it gets rid of a lot of the fuzzy look that curly hair can have, which would make styling easier on days that you choose not to flat iron your hair.

After getting a straight perm, I blow the hair out and flat iron it. You’ll need to wait a couple days to wash your hair for best results.

Relaxer

This option is more harsh for your hair, so I don’t recommend trying this route first. It does work and if you would want to go this route first, we can.

Can I color and perm my hair at the same time?

I don’t recommend coloring hair and using a permanent straightening method together. Perms and relaxers are drying to your hair. It’s best to only do one or the other or at least wait two months to color after straightening.

Do I need a haircut before using a permanent straightening method?

It’s not required, but it is always recommended to get a haircut at the same time as using a permanent straightening method to help with the dryness.

Come see me at Carla’s Curl Up ‘N Color! Walk-ins welcome, but it’s best to make an appointment to reserve time for your perm.
